At 17:56 yesterday, Alan and Ian crossed the finish line of their very first RolexFastnetRace
Words from onboard : "After passing Fastnet Rock and toasting with a wee dram of Kilchoman we settled into playing the shifts as we gybed downwind in what were, for the first half, much lighter conditions than expected. Frustratingly we experienced a breeze shut down and watched the boats 1 mile ahead extend out to 5 miles really quickly but on the plus side the boats behind us suffered even worse so we made some gains on the other Figaro. Once into solid breeze we held our position well and made some gains, passing the Scilly Isles at sunrise and a reach into the Lizard where we just missed the tidal gate so we spent some time dodging rocks and trying to avoid the worst of the foul tide!
We have seen our current position and we are extremely happy with the result and how we sailed!! We are really pleased to be where we are in the top quarter of our fleet in a boat that was never designed to rate under the IRC handicap system."
In the end, Seacat Challenger finished 15th in the double handed IRC class, 15th in IRC Two, and 100th in overall rankings.
